Questionable Color Combo

I am contemplating some small changes in our bedroom. You may remember my original plan of a serene light blue and green palate. However the set up of my house has me cautious to change the bedroom color. Basically the bedroom flows directly into the stairs which flows directly into our family room. While I think I could change the color of the bedroom I just think the flow from the room to the stair would be disjointed.

So I am going to try and work within the current wall color. In addition the previous owner left some really nice roman shades that are growing on me. I personally think dark roman shades make a room feel too kind of cold. But these are really well made and I just can’t bring myself to take them down. The color is nice and kind of unique too.

Here is what I am thinking. Since the shades are a burnt orange color (although they are looking very red in the above picture) I am thinking of getting a bed spread in that same color family. I like this one from Crate and Barrel.

We also have two small dressers that were handed down from my husbands parents. I think they will make perfect night stands. There is one sticking point – my husbands parents used them as nightstands so it kind of freaks him out that our room would be too much like theirs.

Here is where the questionable color palate comes into play. I am thinking of painting the nightstands navy. Below is an example from Overstock.com. I think it would look really good with the dark orange, but it’s kind of out of the ordinary so I am a little wary of moving forward. I would love your feedback!

  1. Navy blue and burnt orange are one of my favorite color combinations. I also think it is nice to add a touch of soft gray with those colors.

  2. By the way, I used burnt orange, brown, and sky blue in our bedroom and I think blue and orange are perfect for each other...
