Lovely Complicated Rug

We have just ordered a new rug for our living room. I can't wait for it to arrive! We got an insane deal at Pottery Barn - it was already on sale, then add an additional promotional 15% off and finally using some gift cards from our wedding. It's lovely with a beautiful design and the colors look perfect with the wall paint color. But it has complicated our furniture decisions. We had tentatively decided on finding a red couch, but now with the rug that would make a lot of red. I don't want an angry room. A tan couch seems to be a logical choice, but that feels really boring. With tan and red options out - we are left a bit dumbfounded on what colors we should consider.
